DESPOTAKIS VASILIOS
Mr. Despotakis Vasileios has a Diploma in Rural and Surveying Engineer (Aristotle University of Thessaloniki), M.Sc in Satellite Geodesy (Department of Geodesy, Ohio State University) and Ph.D. in Geographic Information Systems (Free University of Amsterdam). He has a certificate for Public works studies in Surveying (C class) and Hydraulics (C class).
He has more than 30 years experience in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), surveying studies (land surveys using total stations and GPS), bathymetric surveys using single/double frequency single- and multi-beam SONARs, hydraulic studies (river flows - flood lines definition), water supply and irrigation systems, water reuse systems, biological treatment plants, road drainage), transportation studies (road survey/steak out, road marking and security, junctions), house/plots official registrations, cadastral (surveys-corrections-applications-full support), space restorations, solid and liquid waste treatment, studies/works paper preparation, participation in EU projects etc. He is familiar with the Greek and International ISO quality standards.
He has an expertise in Photogrammetry, Photo-interpretation and Remote Sensing, in digital satellite image analysis (IKONOS, SPOT etc), in positioning systems (high accuracy GPS-GLONAS receivers and total stations), in bathymetric systems (double frequency SONAR systems, underwater cameras, water sound velocity sensors), in natural resources survey and management, in creation and updating of digital maps (A0 scanners), in meteorological data analysis, in digital environmental models, in hydraulic modeling (MODFLOW, TECHNOLOGISMIKI), in information systems development. He also has University teaching experience in GIS.
He was for 7 years scientific assistance for the Eastern Crete Development Organization (OANAK), in engineering subjects (space restorations, waste treatment, hydrogeological studies, river flow and flood studies for Giofyros river, alternative plans for the new air - lane of Nikos Kazantzakis Heraklion airport etc) and director of the GIS studies office in Heraklion Crete.
He is also a member of numerous greek and international organizations. He is a member of the Technical Chamber of Greece (TEE) information bank, with subjects the use of electronic legislation data base (NOMOS), the Planning Information System of TEE - department of Eastern Crete etc.
